Is getting rid of the penny a big saver, or does it have unintended costs?
The Supreme Court’s recent decision on tariffs and how the majority ignored actual statutory language and decades of history and precedent, and the fact that presidents on both sides of the aisle have used this statutory authority without legal challenges. Kavanaugh’s dissenting opinion was legally and factually well-reasoned. Tariffs were once the only way the federal government collected taxes, but since the amendment to the Constitution that allowed the income tax, tariffs have been primarily a tool in foreign policy and relations, and national security, all responsibilities that are primarily the president’s.
