Recently, Rep. Paul Gosar, Chairman of the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, urged the Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico (FOMB) to take legal action against the Commonwealth and its mayors for the illegal taxation of federal public funds.
Puerto Rico’s mayors are incensed – and for good reason: they know their taxpayer-funded windfall is coming to an end.
As the FOMB noted in a recent letter to Resident Commissioner Pablo José Hernandez, Puerto Rico’s mayors are disproportionately imposing “higher construction excise tax rates on government funded infrastructure projects,” in direction violation federal cost principle 2 C.F.R. § 200.470.
This is an illegal tax on federal public funds.
Sadly, “Republican” Governor Jenniffer González-Colón’s silence remains conspicuous. On one hand, she rushes to Washington seeking handouts from the Trump administration, while allowing those same public funds to be illegally taxed.
Frontiers of Freedom urges the FOMB to end the letter writing campaign and direct its high-priced lawyers to use their authority under PROMESA to bring the Commonwealth before Judge Swain.
This is Waste, Fraud and Abuse.
It’s literally that simple.
